Mike Garrigan has operated GE Tree Service since 1997. Arriving in Colorado in 1991, he began his career in general contracting, construction, and landscaping work. Mike cultivated a deep appreciation for the wide variety of lush shade trees available here after growing up in the spare deserts of Arizona.
In 2005, after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, Mike headed to New Orleans to participate in cleanup efforts, working to preserve the historic trees that remained after the storm. At that point Mike was hooked; he returned to Colorado to focus full time on tree preservation, maintenance, and planning services.
“I believe that less is more when it comes to tree preservation,” Garrigan says. “We want to keep the volume and character of the trees, finding a healthy balance between the wildness of Mother Nature and a well-manicured landscape.”
Mike notes that although nearly 85% of the tree species found in the Denver Metro area are non-native, many thrive in this environment.
“My three favorites are the Autumn Blaze Maple, the Linden, and the Catalpa Trees,” he says.
